The DECODER Way Process

Children need to know how to think - especially when life presents challenges to them that are out of the ordinary or unfamiliar. The DECODER Way offers children a systematic way to find solutions to the problems they face in their lives. Effective solution finding (a.k.a., problem solving) involves the following steps:

  1. Describing the problem.
  2. Explaining the feelings that emerge as a result of the problem.
  3. Collecting and connecting clues and information about the problem.
  4. Offering options, or strategies, to solve the problem.
  5. Deciding which option to consider and act upon.
  6. Energizing, or putting into action, the game plan.
  7. Reviewing the results; Reflecting on the plan; Re-evaluating/revising, as needed.

Below you will find the DECODER acronym highlighted, along with the name of the character skilled in that particular step of the DECODER Way.
