Brainstorming: We write down lots of ideas for our book—especially about the who, what, when, where, why, and how of our story.
Organizing: We took the ideas from our brainstorming sessions and grouped them together. We talked a lot about what our story would look like, and made lists of what would happen in each part--these are called chapters. Our book has 11 chapters.
Drafting: The most fun we had writing our book was taking ideas from our outlines and lists and turning them into sentences and paragraphs. For example, we added details, descriptions, conversations, and information. Having an outline made it easier to organize our story into chapters.
Revising and Editing: We edited and revised our book many times. We wrote every sentence together. Sometimes, one of us talked, and the other typed. Then we looked at what was written and made sure we spelled things correctly and we used the right punctuation. Every time we did this, we found ways to make our writing better. Finally, a person called an editor who worked for the company publishing our book helped us even more.
Publishing: Then it was time to share our writing with others, like what you do when you turn in a final paper to your teacher or share it with your classmates. |
